I'm back posting here sooner than I thought I would. I had another rude woman today, and when I say rude I mean rude. She was vile.
It all started okay-ish. She was demanding and lacked manners and I was basically running around trying to help. Literally bending over backwards to help. I noticed some customers at the till out of the corner of my eye and I instinctively looked towards the till. The woman I was serving suddenly went off on one. I can't say word for word what she said, but here's the gist:
I was rude because I looked away from her and towards the till and SHE was the customer I was supposed to be helping, and how dare I not focus my attention towards her? How dare I look away? (It was a split second). I was rushing her, I was treating her like something on the bottom of my shoe because I looked away, as if I wasn't bothering with her needs.
She went over to the till at this point and said again that I was rude and that obviously I couldn't care less about her, that all I wanted was her money, and that that she would NEVER shop here again. She was insulting me left right and centre about how terrible I was at my job, all of this stemming from me taking my eyes off her for a second! Then she said how last week she was treated horribly because no one would serve her. It transpired that no one served her because we were CLOSED. We're a concession and close at 6pm while the shop we're inside of closes at 7pm. She then tried to steal the items she wanted to buy but was stopped by the staff employed at the larger store. We know this because the staff told us. And apparently she was horrible to them as well.
Back to today. She told me and my supervisor that she hated confrontation and that I was being rude to her for no reason, and that she is stressed out because she works 20 hours a day seven days a week and has to look after 4 children as well. WHAT? How can that even happen? We figured she was a liar, because I've sure as not heard of a job where you work 20 hours in a day for a whole week. She threatened to report me to management. Turns out she did report me to management, but instead of speaking to my manager, she complained to the manager who runs the shop we're situated inside of. They know what she's like though, and she's a real trouble maker. I hadn't had the pleasure of meeting her until today though. She's a nightmare customer...
